Aug 13: St Jean d'Aulps - week two

11th:  Pete's first cycle race - 14km from Morzine to Avoriaz, with 800m of climb.
Finished strongly, in a time of around 55 minutes, even managing to 'drop' a local rider in the last couple of km.  Awarded with a "silver" certificate at the finish.  (That doesn't mean I came second!)
The ride back down took only 17 minutes, followed by more high-speed downhill thrills on the Luge d'été in Morzine

12th: A long chair lift ride took us over the Swiss border, up to Pointe des Mossettes (2277m).

13th: Pete & Dave's mountain bike adventure, with a rather slow start because the cable car we wanted to use was being rebuilt, so we had to take 2 chair lifts instead.

After lunch, Becky & Charlotte walked up Pointe du Clocher,
while the kids dragged Dave & Pete round a nature trail (or was it the other way round?)
We passed through some very pretty villages.

A water trough, reminding us of Megan's "incident" earlier in the week, which was unfortunately not caught on camera for featuring on "You've Been Framed".

14th: Emily's first leader climb, on a bolted route.

15th: Having tried out the baby via ferrata earlier in the week, Charlotte wanted to try the big one, if only to make use of the "extreme sports" insurance we had bought.

Our chalet: "La Ferme", L'Abbaye, St Jean d'Aulps.

Later, we drove up to the Lac des Mines d'Or, and enjoyed a glorious sunny day walking through alpine forest and pastures.

with an extended stop at a cool stream.

16th: More climbing.
