Jul 17: Cycling

2nd July: High Peak Road Race.  After some success in the 'B group' of the road racing league this year, I was persuaded to enter this one-off handicap race, on the assumption that I would again be in the middle group. As it turned out I was promoted to the 'scratch group'.  We were unable to catch up the 5 minute head-start given to the middle markers, but I managed not to get dropped until the very last climb.

7th: Bradfield Hill Climb. Katie officially joined Daddy's club to enter her first race on her new bike, and she won two prizes.  She got the "Lanterne Rouge" (last place), which was kind of expected, but she was also the third-fastest school girl. The main thing was she rode all the way to the top of the hill without stopping!

I didn't win anything - but at least I managed to get under 3 mins.

12th: Sheffrec SpoCo time trial. This was the last of a series of "Sporting Course" (i.e. hilly) time trials.  This one was a challenging 19 mile course from Chesterfield to Baslow to Owler Bar and back.

20th: North Midlands Road Race League, last race before the holiday.  Leading the peloton at the start of the last lap, having made a failed attempt to break away.

In the final race of the season (10th Aug), I managed a slightly jet-lagged 4th place which took me to 2nd overall in the league.

30th: Epcot & Richard's birthday party

1st Aug: Hollywood Studios

The "Rock'n'Rollercoaster" was so good we queued up for another go.

The day ended very memorably(!) with a downpour halfway through the "Fantasmic" show. Now we'll never know whether Mickey escaped from the baddies!

2nd: Cocoa Beach (via KSC)

Another Florida shower just after we got to the beach, sent us scuttling to the key lime pie shop.

When we eventually made it into the sea, we had a close encounter with a wild dolphin (not shown here!)

3rd: Back to the Magic Kingdom
